Both Banner pieces are from the same county--Pike County, Indiana, but different families, just "Hey, those are neat" pieces that have ended up in my personal collection over time--the sections are both in the "Claystone" or red slate stone type--the wider piece showing the banding that gets labeled "Claystone" (1&1/2" by 1&3/8")--the smaller, thicker piece is 1&3/8" by 3/4" thickness. A close up photo will show some deliberate Mid Archaic period salvage of the end--the 6500BP hunter used something like a scrap of flint to cut the piece in half--WHY? Were they going to drill the 'trophy', make it a pendant--and maybe they did with the other 1/4 section they cut off. Too late to ask questions like that, and with no drilling hole 'starts', any guesses are strictly that. Trust people to have a purpose, that's the best I can offer (as a why?). Banner pieces are great for studying how the drilling (cane drilling) was done, how they started-and-stopped as they changed the reeds they used, added more sand/ clay drilling paste. Neat pieces, authentic. Shipping is $9.00 with checks, cash, or M.O>s the ways I welcome-in payments. Sorry, I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
