What a bevel, the stage one blade must have been huge to get these steep bevels. Length of the Spencer County, Indiana, find is 2&3/8" by 1&3/8", and a full 7/16" thick. The thickness is how you know the Early Archaic knapper was working hard to keep sharp cutting edges--when the original preform--a Cobbs Knife--was first basal notched it was likely almost 2" wide--the closer the edges became to the medial ridge the steeper those bevels became. Excellent work, artistry. The nicked-off barb is ancient damage, 7500BP. The basal edge is center-notched and heavily ground. Neat piece, real in every detail. Shipping is $8.00, cash, checks, or money orders are the three ways to buy it. Sorry, I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
