Something about the shape, I think this was a broken gorget which was worn as a pendant--possibly the other half was worn by some other Adena culture owner--seems like far more effort to shape and drill the hole than would be needed unless there was a special significance to the piece. Like any number of artifacts, you try to understand how (or why) it was used--again, I think this was half of a "set". Height is 2&1/8" by 1&1/8", a quarter inch max thickness of Banded Slate. The drilling was mainly done from one face, the reverse face was not drilled with the same size cane--usually that's Adena-type drilling. The piece is out of either Gibson or Posey County, Indiana. Shipping is $7.00, checks or M.O.s are the two ways I welcome payments. Sorry, I' do not use paypal-type payment services--Roy A.
