A St. Claire County, Illinois, cache blade, heat treated Burlington Chert, most likely Adena Culture (Cache Blades being one of the Adena culture's trademarks), 5&1/8" by 3&1/2", 3/4" being the thickest spot my caliper can reach. The blade shows a lot of age-staining, more on one face than the reverse. To get the 'softer' Burlington Chert more 'workable' the piece was heat treated--the iron in the chert turning a red coloration. Too, it doesn't look like the finder washed the piece, you still see soil in the flake scars, good patination overall--read that as REAL. Shipping is $8.00 with checks or M.O.s welcomed. Sorry, I do not use electronic payment types (like paypal)--Roy A.
