How many peck-and-polish 'peck marks' would you estimate? A thousand? More? Each represents one tap of a hammerstone (quartzite) against granite, a tiny bit of material removed each time, some to fall to the Woodland makers feet...some to get in his eyes. Interesting Pike County, Indiana, artifact with an exceptional bit, and bit area polish. So why so small, why go to so many hours on a 2&11/16" by 1&1/4", 11/16" thick Celt? Maybe I'm reading-in too much, but it looks like the sort of care a father would put in for a young sons' (or daughter) first 'axe'. You decide--neat piece regardless.
