A field find from a S/W. Indiana collection4&3/4" by 2&1/4"--max thickness is 1&1/4"--that's got to be a record for symmetry--just a balanced Celt. My 'best guess' is the Celt is Adena Culture, the style, the size is more what those 2000BP peoples used--and they seemed to like Greenstone for celt manufacture, plenty of that material to be found along area rivers, White, Wabash, or Ohio rivers.There are a couple very light farm-made scratches, plowing equipment--any other roughness (on the heel) is from the shape of the river cobble the celt was made from. The piece has one of the best bits you're going to find--and that was one reason greenstone was chosen: it pecked & ground a bit easier than granite, greenstone celts having generally sharper bits...unless they were lost after very heavy use.
