As there is no basal or lateral edge grinding, that pair of characteristics shift the classification to a much later period tan the Early Archaic Agate Basins--too, the flaking is more random, not the carefully controlled pressure chipping of the Agate Basin lance points. The find is made of a super-patinated Burlington Chert,3&1/4" by 1"--at the thickest measure, some 1&1/2" down from the tip, the piece slightly goes over 3/8". That measure, to me, says the Mid Archaic Lance was considerably longer as first made--that either 'correction of a blade edge nick' or shaft sharpener, that's ancient and has a work polish (use) feel to it. Note along the medial ridge, there is considerable use (and polish) to the medial ridge; you can really feel the ancient wear. Out of the Decatur, Illinois, area, the lance is guaranteed authentic in every detail. Shipping is $5.00, checks or M.O>s welcomed. Sorry, I do not use paypal--Roy A.
