Made from Banded Slate, but deciding exactly what the Mid Archaic artisan was making I haven't figured out. The piece isn't the correct shape for a Bannerstone, but possibly it was intended to be, then broke--so what was all the secondary work intended to make? Note the heavy grinding both on the flat area, that part that have been drilled ( assuming it was to be something like a Butterfly Bannerstone), and the edges Those rounded edges are all heavily ground--so whatever its purpose, it was a finished artifact, 1&7/8" by 1&3/16", 9/16" thick. I've seen broken Bannerstones that were polished somewhat like this--always assumed they were worn as pendants. Some 6500 years after the Mid Archaic peoples made the piece, though, you have to supply your own answer as to "What do I call it?". Shipping is $46.00, checks, cash, or M.O.s welcomed. Sorry, I do not use paypal--Roy A.
