A snowy, icy morning to everyone from here in the Hoosier state. Sorting through cases, trying to find something 'interesting' I cam up with a big blade I stashed-away a couple years back. The man had a very large collection, flint & stone, but there was no tag to say anything about this cornernotched hafted knife.. Something always bugged me about the piece, and a conversation with Jerry Dickey at last years' Grand Rivers, KY, artifact show came back to me--look for sanding, i.e. a 'feel' that a piece was too slick. Even under a 10x loop it was obvious the peaked ridges of this point were worn-down in a way authentic flint (blades" are not--other artifacts, like a Uniface tool, there I expect the ridges to be worn, but not on a hafted knife, not one with so little apparent use (resharpening)--that shouldn't be. Using a "Jarlink" 20x and 60x duo (lighted) magnifier the sanding of the entire blade reflects enough polish to blind you. I guess Mr. Brewer bought the piece...because he sure didn't FIND it. Another for my rockgarden, lol. Best--and stay safe--to everyone on this early January ice storm of 2025--Roy A.
