The body of the Celt may be less than 'stellar', but what a bit, rounded top-to-bottom, crisp edged, and patinated a couple thousand years (assuming it was either Adena or Hopewell, and almost no Mississippian artifacts in the small collection). The piece comes from the Decatur, Illinois, area, measures 2&5/8" by 1&9/16" across the bit--thickness reaches 10.5 sixteenths. The surface polish is excellent. Was the piece ever full-bodied, or was an irregular shaped piece of Hematite used, there never was enough of this iron ore there to fashion a heel--personally, I doubt the heel was ever too well fashioned, the BIT was what they were interested in, and they went to extra care to fashion it. The body, it'd have been covered by the wood handle and the sinew bindings, it wasn't of that much concern. Every detail is lifetime guaranteed authentic, period. Shipping is $7.00.Payment: I welcome checks, cash, or M.O.s, but please note I do not use paypal--Roy A.
