The piece was from a Spencer County, Indiana, collection, found along the Ohio River--but figuring what that flint might be, I'm not sure I even have a guess that'd be anywhere close to being right--translucent, similar to Carter Cave Flint (Paoli), but so far west of where Carter Cave turns up (distribution range), it'd have to come to this corner of Indiana by trade--either that, or it's a heat treated form of a flint that changed colors during the heat treating process. I'm opting for 'trade' to bring in some 'outside' flint like Carter--these were Hopewell people, after all, and their trade networks were exceptional. Length is slightly over 2&1/8" by 1&1/4". With a 3/8" max thickness you know the piece started as a much larger knife blade--well sharpened (pressure chipping), more in-curvate on one blade side.Old glue & felt is on one side, but easily removed--it shows how the piece was once framed. Patina is excellent, every detail is lifetime guaranteed authentic. Shipping is $6.00, checks, cash, or M.O>s welcomed. Please note I do NOT use paypal if you try to pay that way--Roy A.
