Burlington Chert,3&13/16" by 1&5/8"--center thickness is slightly over 3/8" on the medial ridge--very thin and elongated tip--base is 'somewhat snap base. It looks like the Archaic knapper was working for maximum length, so the flint left at the bottom of the flake/ preform wasn't quite enough to fashion a full stem--it was ground smooth to remove any sharp edges. There are mineral spots seen under magnification, and that indicated that would indicate the base grinding is ancient--just very heavy. One barb is longer than the opposite, whether from design or from a more extensive blade edge sharpening that took away more flint--note on the shorter barb side the blade isn't as incurvate as on the longer barb, there was far less sharpening of the edge on that side. The family gave White and Wabash Counties, Illinois as their area of hunting, but if this big Etley ever had a provenance tag it's long gone. Under 10x loop there are several spots of waterbased glue, barbs and basal corner, so the piece was displayed, it wasn't boxed-away--those glue spots will come off easily, though. The point is real, period. Shipping is $5.00, checks or M.O.s are welcomed. Sorry, I do not use paypal--Roy A.
