82575--Indiana Big Sandy, REALLY colorful chert
I've spent over fifty years collecting, plus studying chert types from my area, but this Posey County, Indiana, Big Sandy is made of one I haven't seen before. It's possible the piece is a creek find, what was once a more recognizable chert type was patinated by creek minerals--regardless, the piece has "curb appeal", if that makes sense. From the very heavily ground basal edge to the tip is 2", 1&1/8" width, only 5/16" max thickness. Was the Early Archaic Big Sandy sharpened and sharpened some more? Those blade edges testify that's exactly what happened, lots of ancient usage...and the patina to go with it; real. Shipping is $9.00 with checks or M.O>s welcomed.
