Being an Early Archaic knife form you wouldn't expect a Cobbs Knife to be fluted, but that's exactly what the knapper did--particularly heavy channel flake on the 'front' face, but incorporating basal thinning flakes on a central (heavy) thinning flake on the reverse. Was that (fluting) simply the "I'll try this" of a skilled knapper, or did he salvage a point from from a much earlier culture, reshape the blade as a triangular knife form instead of an ex-curvate lance point (Clovis). Personally, I think this IS a salvaged Paleo, never having seen a Cobbs with a channel flake, but if so, the Warrick County, Indiana, find was really re-fashioned for use. As with any "I think it was", it's a "opinion"--you'll have to form your own. Length is 2&11/16' by 1&3/8", the max thickness only 5/16". Note the blade edges show particularly heavy use-wear--THEY ARE DULL--only heavy use does that--one more small note: on each corner of the base a 'fracturing technique" was used, similar to the Decatur Fractured Base points. Again, that's not 'normal' Cobbs technique, yet every possible detail is guaranteed authentic. Shipping is $9.00 with payment to be by check or money order. Sorry, I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
