81057--A long Kentucky flint knife--Adena, likely
The shape of this "found over sixty years ago" flint knife is that sort of 'teardrop' shape favored by Adena knappers--Edmonson County if I understand the labeling system the finder used--far southern Kentucky may be the easiest way of identifying the area. The flint has some look, maybe not as much gloss as Carter Cave (Paoli Flint)--a long 4&3/16" by 1&5/16", and about touching 1/2" max thickness---this was a work knife, not a "see what I can make" showpiece made by an ancient knapper testing his limits. This knife saw use. One small note--on only one side of the very tip there is use polish (the side with the provenance)--you can feel how the flint was rubbed to a polish.
