Found along the Ohio River in the S.W. corner of Indiana, Vanderburgh or Posey County, this Hornstone Hopewell measures exactly 2" by slightly over 1&1/4"--VERY symmetrical in form and thickness (3/8"). The point has been in my collection for a while simply because of that fine symmetry. You can see the one small nick up near the tip, not sure if it was a bit of flint that broke off with freeze-thaw as it's be an odd spot for 'use-damage' to a knife, being so rounded. Both barbs are intact, the one just looks like the Woodland Culture knapper was fighting with 'stacks' in the flint...places where the flint had a 'grain' to it. What I'm trying to describe is flint that cooperated (with the knapper) in most areas, but presented challenges in others. The Hopewell artisan who made the point, he did a pretty decent job of it. One note--I've never washed the surface sandy soil off the point, put it under a 10x loop, you'll see that. Shipping is $8.00 and payment can be by check or M.O. as I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
