Heavy, heavy basal edge grinding on this Big Sandy, a fossil chert (heat treated as the red color indicates) that measures 1&11/16" by 1". Thickness isn't quite to 5/16", and with a base as wide as this Early archaic point has, there was considerably more blade as the point (knife) was first made. When the piece was sharpened to the present length I would expect it changed to a hafted dart, there not being enough bade length for cutting. There is one small patinated ancient chip at the very tip--or just maybe that was intentional to get a very sharp tip--it IS. The finder hunted up-and-down the Ohio River to the west of Evansville, Indiana--he didn't mark which site (or side of the river) he was hunting, but you have the area where the piece was found--it's real, period. Shipping is $8.00, checks, cash, or money orders are the three ways I welcome payment. Sorry, I do not use paypal-type payment services--Roy A.
