A lot of use, all of it dating back to the Mississippian Culture in Henderson County, Kentucky--1250--1400 BP. The Adz shows more bit salvage and reuse than, well, usual, but notice in the close up photos where the bit area has excellent polish--you don't grind the flake scars off a hard chert in a few minutes, this Adz was some dugout-makers' favorite canoe making tool. Length is 4&3/8" by 2", with a max thickness of 7/8" (and a strong polish down that medial ridge). The upper end shows the indented edges where lashings (sinew) held the Adz head firmly in place. Note a 'dimple' where wedges were likely inserted under the lashings to stop the head from moving as charred wood was removed from the dugout. Neat tool, real. Shipping is $8.00, checks, cash, or M.O.s welcomed--Roy A.
