The long (3&5/16" by 1&1/8") Narrow Stem Waubesa came from the estate of Richard Brewer, Champaign, Illinois, area, but the flint (Hornstone, a banded vareity) has more of a "Kentucky look", it's not an Illinois Hornstone (Cobden Flint), so I expect Richard purchased the long point from some Kentucky dealer. Often, following a death, an estate sale, you're left 'filling in the blanks' if there isn't written provenance on a collection--I saw one small collection where the family had moved at least four times, gathering additional finds to add to their collection as they moved along--that collection was like a pile of string you're trying to unravel. This particular piece, I keep wanting to think of it as a Turkey Tail, but the 'fit' for a Waubesa is the closest. Note on the base of the stem there were two angled flakes fractured to make a sharp basal "V"--the knapper made the point fit the handle, not the handle fit the point. Flaking, patina, they're first rate work, they're guaranteed authentic in every detail. Shipping is $7.00 (new post office rates went into effect on 7-14-25). I welcome checks or M.O>s, but do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
