So what caused such heavy patina--answer is easy: coal run-off from a long abandoned strip mine that was "reclaimed" by planting pine trees, then left for a couple generations. What washed downstream, well, you can see the result on this point/ blade that had been converted into an end scraper. I think the material is our Spencer County, Indiana, Holland Chert, and that is based on the color in the 'scraper area' of the bit. Length is 2&9/16" by 1&1/8" (roughly), 3/8" max thickness. Now--what culture made it--Adena is my 'best guess' based on the percussion flaking technique...some of the flaking is so covered by mineralization you can't so much as see the chipping on the narrowed end.
