Ask me about Indiana of Kentucky side-notch forms, especially if there is even marginal basal edge grinding, I'll call the piece a Big Sandy--this Fayette County, Illinois, piece has some--repeat that 'some' basal grinding, but the slightly rounded base is more like a Mid Archaic Godar Point--thickness is more than you'd expect on an Early Archaic type--3/8" thickness on the hafting area (length is an excellent 2&9/16" (slightly over the 9/16") by 1&1/4"')--good size excellent flint. One note about the flint: if this point was a Kentucky find I'd call it either Boyle Chert-heat treated, or a form of Sonora Flint, Boyle Chert being closer than anything else in terms of color, fossil inclusions, gloss. The last owner, the late Bill Pesch marked the point as coming from his home area, so that provenance has to stand--unknown if he found or bought the piece, but he marked history and catalog numbers on one side. The only spot to note--and it isn't damage--is a flat edge from the original preform the knapper began working--it's off the side of the tip. Note the 'original' patina--excellent side notch, real in every detail. Shipping is $6.00, checks or M.O.s are welcomed, but please note my store does NOT use paypal--Roy a.
