Out of a Warrick County, Indiana, collection some ten or eleven years back, a well made 3&9/16" by 1&9/16", 7/16" thick knife. I worded the title as "Cobbs Type" as the flaking seems more Late Archaic to Woodland than the finer, beveled edge Cobbs Knives of the Early Archaic period--in places there IS some good pressure chipping, but overall the flakes are larger, more percussion work (knapping) than the Early Archaic hunters would have used--part of that may be that this is a hornstone-cortex knife, and it may have been harder to chip. Too, as Greg Perino once wrote, your hands tell you more than your eyes--you'll feel some work-made dulling on the basal edge and the left side (first picture)--the knife saw considerable use. Note the tip--it has slight 'notches' on either side, like it was being used as a drill: you can pick up on a LOT of work dulling on the very tip. Good piece, guaranteed real. Shipping is $6.00, checks or M.O>s welcomed. Sorry, I do not use paypal--Roy A.
