I pay the shipping cost on this superb Hornstone Cache Blade from a Shell Main site--you see that heavy build-up of calcium there's only one or two ways that occurs--mussel shells being the main manner. The last owner couldn't recall if the piece (it was actually one of two blades) was from Kentucky, or here in Indiana--call it "driving distance of Evansville, Indiana", you'll have as much info as I have--the blade is Harrison County, Indiana, Hornstone, nodular flint, not a 'lense' flint. Length is 3&3/4" by 2&2/8". What's unusual is the thinness: only 3/8" (and a fraction). For a hornstone cache blade that's considerably thinner than you generally see--those (Adena Cache Blades) can be 3/4" or even thicker. I'm of the opinion this was slightly later, a Hopewell Cache Blade--not a North Blade, but in that order of preform. Note the small finish-out notch tucked onto a lower blade side--but nothing on the opposite blade edge. There had to be a reason, but figuring it out, well...it's anyone's guess...too high on the blade for a basal notch, though, so what were they doing? Again, there is ALWAYS a reason. One note--the blade edges are deliberately dulled--not ground so much as just dulled. Had the blade been used as a knife that would make sense, but somehow I suspect there was another reason to dull the edges. Theories??? Every detail is lifetime guaranteed authentic. I welcome checks or M.O>s, however I do not use paypal--Roy A.
