A month of moving dirt on my yard (reseeding a yard that was nothing but weeds & clover) and "attempting" to dig out 34 years of muck from the spillway of my family pond (to be continued next year in the dry season, lol), my first artifact listing in nearly a month. This sizable 3"x2"x 9/16" thick Paleo Scraper is from the Illinois Union or Jackson County area, Richard Brewer collection/ estate--four or five years in my Paleo Scraper collection. Using the brown patinated form of Hornstone as a guide the piece is Illinois Cobden Flint--with a 'rind' of limestone cortex along the spine. The scraping edge is some absolutely great flint chipping, pressure knapping, not percussion work. What would indicate that the piece was hafted is the small flute on the "pure flint" face--thinned so the scraper would fit (slot) onto a handle. There is a small degree--but noticeable) of lateral edge grinding where sinew could be wrapped (and not a braided). Patina is great, 100% guaranteed authentic. Shipping is $9.00. I limit payments to checks, cash, or money orders--I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
