A Spencer/ Warrick County, Indiana, creek produced this nice cornernotched Early Archaic Kirk Point--hardly any basal edge grinding, but classic Early Archaic period chipping technique identify the piece as Kirk Culture--about every other E. Archaic point type would have ground that basal edge. The other characteristic that identifies the piece is that the sharpening is done (outward) from each side of the blade--quadra-facial, not the bevel sharpening of Lost Lakes and Dovetails. Every culture, they had 'their way of doing it', and seeing a piece that breaks that pattern, the only ones that fit that group are 'transitionals'...and do they ever throw you ! Study an "Early Archaic Bevel", you'll understand. This 1&3/4" by 1&3/16" creek find came from the finders by way of an old friend of mine, it's real in every detail.
