Is the almost 5&5/8" blade a flint, or is it a quartz--I'm honestly not even close to being able to answer that question. The late Norman Reid collected the blade, had it displayed in his private museum in the Edwards County, Illinois, area (Bone Gap, IL). With most of his collection Norman wrote his name and the county information on one face, but not on this particular blade--he was also known to "hit-up" local collectors for pieces to display (the museum was his livelihood)...but being in Norman's estate, no additional provenance, you now know what I know. I pass on the provenance I get, I believe that chain of ownership information is part of any artifacts history. It's important. Okay--width is 1&5/8", with the single thickest spot very close to 1/2".--much of the blade is thinner, but only on a couple of edge spots is the material translucent--if this were a 'true' quartz I think the piece would be more light permeable. Is the bottom 1.5" edge-ground, or use dulled--could be either case, but it would seem that a hand-held knife would have more basal edge dulling as "protection" (for the users' hand. If hafted, a small indention 2" from the base shows deliberate dulling for sinew, to hafting seems probable (to me). Every detail is guaranteed real, period. Shipping is $9.00, checks or M.O.s are welcomed. Sorry, I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
