82559--Illinois Celt, hours and hours of effort in it
Two things to note on this southern Illinois Celt--#1 is that the bit is pretty darn good. #2 is that the heel, well, I've seen better, but there's a 'caveat' to that. See the pics of the top edge and the bottom edge--you want to try to count the peck marks (literally hundreds of them) as tiny bits of stone (granite or Diorite, I think) were removed with each hard 'tap' of a hammerstone. The hours that went into forming the piece, those impress me--the Woodland Culture maker worked hard to fashion a workable tool--a Celt. Length is 3", width of the bit is 2&9/16"---with the closeness of the length-to-width numbers you know the piece started its journey as a much longer Celt, reworked as necessary.. All ancient, guaranteed so. Shipping comes with the price, checks, cash, or money orders, those are the only ways to buy the piece as I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
