At times, you pick up a point and your first impression is :"Creek find"--this is one, strong water & mineral staining. The piece comes from along the Wabash River, Gibson County, Indiana, if it's like the rest of the family collection--they farmed along the river for generations, collected artifacts from their land--eventually, estates get settles, old collections get parted out. This hornstone MacCorkle measures very close to 1&7/8" by 1&1/8"--the 5/16" thick blade shows multiple edge sharpenings (and continued use)--the tip was practically 'twisted' as the hunter worked to keep a sharp point on a shorter, thicker blade. There is only minor dulling of the stem--more grinding in the notches, though, as there should be (prevent cutting through the sinew used to wrap the point tightly on a handle)--and strong basal thinning, almost a flute.
