Cobb’s Blade – 4 5/16" – Fort Payne Chert – Kentucky
This is a big, impressive Cobb’s blade measuring 4 5/16 inches, made from high-quality Fort Payne chert and found in Kentucky. Pieces like this don’t come along often in this size and condition.
Cobb’s blades are tied to the Late Paleoindian to Early Archaic transition, roughly 10,000–8,500 years BP, representing some of the earliest true blade technology in the Eastern Woodlands. These were not just crude tools—this is refined craftsmanship from a time when people were mastering long, controlled flake removal.

This example shows that skill. It has a long, lanceolate form with excurvate blade edges, thinning well carried across both faces. The flaking is clean and intentional, with good symmetry and balance throughout. Fort Payne chert gives it that classic look—tight grain, durability, and excellent knapping quality.
Blades like this were likely multi-purpose cutting tools, but pieces of this size and workmanship also suggest a level of care beyond simple utility. Whether used, carried, or valued, it represents a serious piece of early technology.
Found in Kentucky, right in the heart of Fort Payne material distribution.
A large, authentic Cobb’s blade with real presence—Early material, good form, and the kind of piece that stands out in any case. Guaranteed Authentic for life. $7.00 USPS shipping. Josh Davis COA
