Without trying to 'hype' a point, simply saying it's one very nicely colored piece of flint, this preform for a Lowe point/ Bakers Creek would fall under the Copena "cluster" of points--generally speaking Copena points are more Kentucky and parts south, but as the Lowe points are a common feature on Late Hopewell sites along the Oho river, you do occasionally turn up a "Classic Copena"--regarding this 2&1/2" by 1&1/16", quarter inch thick point I'd say it a preform for a Lowe...aka a "Stemmed Copena". The flint is a Hancock County, Kentucky, material that's a 'cousin' to Indiana Spencer County Holland Flint--there are slight differences in the Hancock County deposits, but it's easy to mix them up. I'll return to something Tony DeRegnaucourt once told me: "You have to know where the piece was found, sometimes, to know which flint it might be." The man knew flint--as they say, "He wrote the Book" (Midwest Chert Types). Returning to this particular point, I've had it framed with Lowes and Bakers Creek points--myself, I consider it a preform, not a 'stand alone' point (Copena). Shipping is $8.00, checks or M.O.s are how I take payments. Sorry, I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
