This Quad was purchased from the Kentucky finder, R. Travelsted,(sp) Livingston County, far western Ky--it's been a part of my collection for better than few years--visually, the very high grade of Hornstone--almost to the color of Kentucky Blue Flint, the knapping work, form and patina, they all come together in this 2&3/16" by 1&5/16" Paleo. Basal and lateral grinding, they're decent--not super ground, but definitely they ARE ground. Knapping scars, some extend past the medial ridge, the "overshot" flaking found on Paleo points--outre pas flaking. Was the piece once much longer, resharpening (ancient) and shortening of the blade were what resulted in the angled flake that makes the tip (on one face)--or was this the original form. Honestly, I think you'll get different opinions depending on the collector you talk to. One thing is evident, the leading edge, while not a sharp "V", is a sharp edge--to avoid losing blade length the Paleo may have decided against narrowing the blade to get a more pointed tip--that is, they wanted the wider blade for more 'cutting surface'--that's my theory, anyway. Every detail is guaranteed real, period. I pay the shipping cost, and I take payments by check or money order. Sorry, I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
