The weight of this Celt will surprise you--pick it up and your first reaction will be the weight seems to be twice what you expected--it's a green granite (or similar type) material, with either mica or quartz as one of the main components, light--reflections--sparkle as you turn the piece under a light source--the Woodland Culture maker undoubtedly chose the cobble he found based partly on that "eye appeal". Length of the piece is 4&3/4" by 2&7/16"--max thickness is 1&5/8". Substantial. One face has a calcium build-up. Having seen calcium adhesions on things like cache blades and certain shell main-found points, and not wanting to attempt to remove what may be part of this Celt's 'patina' that calcium isn't something I'll remove--there are other explanations for the material, assuming it is NOT modern--but that's speculation. The piece was out of a Bond Co., Illinois, collection, it's guaranteed real. Shipping is by Priority Mail, choke, gasp--$14.00 these days--my apologies, USPS rates are out of sight. I welcome checks or money orders however I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
