An extra large Snyders point that came from a S.W. Indiana collection--it could have been found here in Indiana, or across the Wabash River in Illinois--this is a Hopewell (Snyders Point), and those Woodland Era people were constantly trading to get out-of-area flints (or material for their tools). Length is 3&1/16" by a wide 2&3/16", only 3/8" max thickness--now is the chert Burlington, or something tan that looks similar--see the small inclusion in the center of the 'flatter face'--there is a 'faceted' crystal in that inclusion, almost a garnet-colored red. I've never seen an inclusion of that sort in Burlington, so I'm of the opinion this is some other chert. Flint sources, though, I've walked a number of them searching for color variations--just when you think you know every color of a chert, pop, there's a piece that surprises you--you're always learning (hopefully). This big Snyders, you can see salvage and subsequent work patterns on the tip (see one small modern chip, it shows bright white in the indented tip area)--the stem, the basal fracturing, I doubt there ever was more to the stem--too thick for one thing, it'd seem the Hopewell knapper worked the stem last, he got the blade length he was after, the wide barbs, but then ran out of preform to fashion a 'proper' Snyders stem--a lot of what we call "snap base" points are like that, not broken, but made to get as much usable blade length as possible. Nice Snyders, guaranteed authentic in every detail. Shipping is $8.00 with checks or M.O>s welcomed. My store does not use paypal, though--Roy A.
