I've owned this C. Alexander piece for fifteen years, and like so much of his collection it was almost undoubtedly found years before that on an Ohio River "island' called "Flint Island". As the river would cut into the banks, the (in a few places) almost 3' thick midden, artifacts would tumble to the beach==the finder made it an 'every chance we can' hunting trip...you saw those size 15 shoeprints, you knew there was nothing left to find, lol. Flint Island was a 'way station' for any number of cultures as they'd load up canoes in Harrison County, Indiana, scoot back to the 'island' (protected by a slough on the back side) where they could hammerstone-crack open both nodules and large lense-found hornstone, lighten the load before paddling back downstream. Cultures, many of them Woodland, Adena and Hopewell, left tons of flint, even more tons of broken hammerstones, partial blades, points that likely got lost in the loose sand, and cookfire debris. Incredible midden--it's been almost thirty years since I was shown the site, the image stays with you, all that flint, all those broken hammerstones. This knife (Hopewell or Adena) measures 2&11/16" by 1&3/4", 7/16" max thickness--and a perfect example of what this "Lithic Workstation" was known for. Shipping is included with the price, checks, cash, or M.O.s are the only ways I take payment--sorry, paypal users, I use no electronic payment forms. All the best to your families for 2026--Roy A.& family
