First thing to mention is that there is no, absolutely NO basal edge grinding--the sides of the stem were somewhat ground (as they should be), but the lack of grinding is a 'indicator' of the culture that made this point/ knife: Hopewell. The piece comes from an old, decades-back collected Warrick County, Indiana, collection. Was the piece creek-found--or Ohio River found--I would say 'river' as there is no damage from use or plowing. The hornstone is patinated, though, you can see the mineral build-up around the edges on what was undoubtedly the "down face". Length is 2&5/8" by 1&7/16", only 5/16" max thickness. With the larger size stem I would view the blade as having been considerably longer in stage one (as made)--the Hopewell knapper was skilled enough to thin his preform so you don't have the very thick medial ridge seen on some extra-large hafted knives. Viewing the rounded shoulders, I see some elements of Snyders points, but a more generic Hopewell Cluster classification works better--at least in my opinion. Every detail is guaranteed authentic, period. Shipping is $8.00, and payment can be by check, cash, or money order. I do not use any sort of paypal-type payment service--Roy A.
