As near as I can 'type' the point it's a Quad Point, one of the transitional Paleo point types--auriculate base, somewhat ground basal edge, with auricles--it's also slightly notched above the auricles--on one side--side #2 the knapper encountered a 'stack' where additional thinning (for hafting) proved unworkable. Light grinding of the edge was the finish-out chosen. As the Quad isn't quite 'classic', my thought is that the piece was a salvage job, perhaps the base was what needed salvage, not the tip. At any rate the present length is 1&9/16" by 1&1/16". The provenance was recorded by the finder, Norman Reid, as Edwards Co., Illinois, 1946--written in ink that provenance is likely permanent. The flint is a very high silicate material, possibly Avon Chert out of western Illinois--back-lighting the piece you can see both the slight translucence and the patination: authentic in every detail. Shipping is $8.00 (USPS minimum for a small box), and payment welcomed by cash, check, or M.O. My store does not use paypal--Roy A.
