Sublet Ferry Point – Middle Tennessee
This Sublet Ferry point is a fine Late Archaic to Early Woodland example (ca. 1500–500 B.C.) from Middle Tennessee, expertly fashioned from dense Fort Payne chert. Its deeply patinated, chalky surface and iron-stained tones testify to long burial in limestone soils.
The blade displays graceful excurvate edges and a sharp tip, with broad shallow notches forming narrow expanding stems and rounded shoulders. Both faces show careful pressure flaking and basal grinding typical of the type. The chert’s former bluish-gray color has mellowed to ivory and frost-white, reflecting great age and authenticity.
