Hartford County Slate Semi Lunar Knife . (Ulu) This is a wonderful slate artifact it shows some damage to the comb from ancient times. That blade is in perfect condition. About a half inch of the comb is still present on one lateral edge. It has some very nice use wear which is apparent after that original break. These are rare in the North East and even more rare outside of the North Eastern United states. The ones found in Alaska and the PNW date much later than the ones from the North East. Dates from Ulus found in Vermont at Otter Creek in association with Otter Creek points are 6 to 8000 BP. These were primarily used for processing fish.
