This Northern Side Notched point is a beautiful handful. It's made from Obsidian, found in the Ft. Rock valley in the 1950's & is dated 9,000 B.P. to 3,000 B.P.. Northern Side Notch points tend to come with 3 different base styles. The area the point was found in seems to dictate the base style. For example points found in the Warner Valley area of S.E. Oregon tend d to be the Fox Ear variety, where other areas tend to have straight or concave bases. This piece is free of flats stacks or curves & is very well made. It's also spent alot of time in the windblown Desert environment as well as Wave action on a ancient Lakeshore as it's flaki9ng has been worn to an unrecognizable state. That said our grade on this piece is a G9, due to a small nick on each blade edge. Most might grade this a G10, but experience in the field as well as having the privilege of viewing thousands of Great Basin points we can say with confidence this point has a bit to be desired for it to make a grade of G10.
