My daughter, cleaning out my basement, found a frame of my "old collectibles" from early this century--points I'd long forgotten. Tagged, though, I could track down the history---Morgan County, Indiana, ex Don Schroyer, points he bought for his collection, then moved when something else caught his interest--at least twenty years in my basement, lol. In all seriousness, if you don't tag everything in your collection it's too easy for the provenance to be lost. I classified this Indiana Hornstone blade as a Stanfield, a Late Paleo-to-Early Archaic Culture knife--very slightly over 3" by 1&1/2", yet only 1/4" max thickness--some call these "Tennessee River" knives, but at this high level of knapping skill I disagree with that classification. The knife blade shows intentional basal fluting strikes (Paleo workmanship) yet the blade has the almost micro-serration that was more common in the Early Archaic. The one corner shows an attempt to cornernotch the point--the reason they stopped--I'd like to know, too--the opposite corner wasn't touched, neither was the basal edge: no attempt at grinding, the same degree sharpness as the blade edges. The only damage is a microchip on the very tip--see the pics, it's minor, but none the less there. Patina is everywhere, the pictures also show that. Shipping is $9.00, checks or M.O.s are how I take payments as I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
