82620--Creek-found Kentucky Pinetree
Out of some creek in either Webster or Union County, Kentucky, VERY weathered hornstone, 2&1/2" by 1&7/16", yet with a thin 5/16" max thickness. Look at the Early Archaic-type flaking scars, you'll understand this was one skilled Pinetree Culture knapper. The barbs show ancient use--as do the majority of Pinetrees--they (the barbs) show some light salvage work to smooth work-made dings--they're not just broken an used that way. Note the tip has almost a 'hook' to it, used as a burin/ reamer. The basal edge shows some degree of grinding--not heavy, but definitely ground. Patina is everywhere, the piece guaranteed real so long as I'm alive. Shipping is $9.00.
