At 3&9/16" by 1&3/16"--7/16" thickness the knife was a fairly substantial Cobbs Knife. An interesting feature--aside from the good quality hornstone used for the piece is that only one left edge shows bevel sharpening--for whatever reason only one blade edge went through repeated sharpening. I'm trying to think if I've seen that before, and no other Cobbs Knives come to mind. Possibly the knife was lost (Jefferson County, Illinois) before it'd received long term wear. With any archaic tool you try to understand how they used the piece--and how they held it in-hand--and why they chipped it in the manner they did.
