What looks like a higher grade Mozarkite Chert--could be a look-alike chert, too, but found in Sangamon County, Illinois, this Paleo point was a "didn't make the cut", 'stacks' in the chert made the fluting process go south. Likely the piece ended up as a hand-held knife. One face shows the first flute strike, it ended at a somewhat larger 'stack'--some Paleo-made salvage of the base, a bit of basal edge grinding to easily hold the knife, they 'made the best of it'. Anyone who thinks every knapping attempt was successful, hey, hunt a lithic workshop near a flint source, you'll find THOUSANDS of broken blades---I have box-after-box of things I've hauled home--want some??? This Paleo measures 2& 13/16" by 1&7/16", 3/8" max thickness, so the knapper was skilled enough to thin his preform without narrowing it too extensively. Shipping is $8.00, checks or money orders are how I receive payments. Sorry, I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
