A decent sized Stone Square Stem Middle Archaic point from a collection west of St. Louis, Callaway County, found somewhere along Auxvasse Creek if I understood the auctioneer's directions. Made from Burlington Chert of a good grade (has some gloss), length is nearly 3&3/8" by 1&3/4" with a center thickness of 7/16"--the numbers indicate an even larger blade as the piece was first knapped. You can easily pick out where the 6500BP user made adjustments to one shoulder--and a bit to the tip--fully patinated. The basal edge shows one new chip where patina can be contrasted. Considering the piece rattled around other flint in a tin box it's not surprising there might be a ding--surprising there aren't more new chips. Note that there is some old glue on one face, and some too-weathered-to-read provenance (naturally). The point is real, period. Shipping is $8.00, checks, cash, or M.O.s are welcomed. Sorry I do not use electronic payments (like paypal)--Roy A.
