This heavy Hematite Plummet was found in Illinois. It comes out of the Floyd Ritter collection. Many plummets were made of hematite (a hard iron ore) indicating that weight was important in their usage which in turn suggests that their primary purpose might be net weights or weights used on looms in the weaving process. Hematite artifacts are highly sought after by collectors.
