Out of the Union County, Illinois, area, the basal section of what must have been an almost 5" Hardin--this basal section is 2&7/8", and there is at least 2" gone--that's one large Hardin my most anyone's count. With all the swirls and bands I assume the material is a red & creme colored Mozarkite-type flint. The stem is really heavy-ground, the Early archaic hunter spent extra time grinding that stem. The front face shows numerous black mineral spotting, hard to say with the reverse as it still carried the field (or creek( dirt--deliberately not washed so you can see exactly how the piece was found. Note that the break-off edge shows work polish, so the 7500BP hunter was employing the tool as a giant hafted scraper--the flint edge is polished from that scraping action. Neat piece. Shipping is $6.00, checks, cash, or M.O.s welcomed. Sorry, I do not use paypal--Roy A.
