I have owned 2 of these for many years and they have been published several times. Now that Tommy Beutell has parted with his Benton Mace - I have all three of them. I was taught as a child to never say "never" , but I bet you will never see three of these together anywhere else.
New one here is the finest known to exist. It was sold from the finder to a collector in Alabama many years ago. The buyer told the finder; "you better take a picture of this because you will never see it again!" I have that picture attached here (it is the wet one)
Provenance on the "2".
These two remarkable “Mississippian Style” Mace-like Artifacts were found about 20 miles apart in the Northeast Mississippi counties of Pontotoc and Chickasaw. Shockingly, these Relics were both found in context with Benton Culture Period relics (4210 B.C. – 2645 B.C.) which predates the Mississippian Mace by at least 3500 years! Does this re-write History?
