Sometimes---make that EVERY time you buy a box 'o rocks-- it pays to sort through what someone considered "junk"--there are no promises in life, but occasionally you spot something that's a perfect fit for your collection. Twenty plus years back this was in a box of Hopkins/ Muhlenburg County, Kentucky points & 'pieces'. Did it break when the Clovis knapper made that first deep flute--or later? As the base is not auriculate (or ground), nor the lateral edges-- I think the flute strike did a 'deep dive' from front face to reverse face; the blade shattered. There is considerable work polish on the broken end to convince me the piece became a Clovis Hafted Scraper. While it's a shame that the piece isn't a full St. Louis Clovis, appreciating it for what it is, the rarity, that's enough. Best to all--Roy A.
