When the Norman Reid private museum was closed, a huge volume of flint got sold--I bought what I could, the pieces were real, the provenance was great. When you never have to ask yourself "Is that real?" you're already well ahead of the game. Norman found (and marked) this side notch as Edwards County (his home turf) Illinois, 1965. Based on the lack of basal grinding I expect this is most likely classified as a Godar Mid Archaic Side Notch, length is 2&3/16" by 15/16", a 3/8" thick medial ridge. Two things stand out, a inked-over bit of provenance on the reverse side--no idea what it once read--and a bit of waterbase glue that once held the point steady in a frame. The glue will come off easily, but ink that's soaked into flint, you may dull it, but getting it totally removed is not too likely. Identifying the chert is something I'm unable to even try--I'll leave the chert I.D. as "tan chert". Patina is there, though, the piece is real. Shipping is $8.00, USPS minimum for a small box, and I welcome checks (csh) or M.O.s. Sorry, I do not use paypal-type payments--Roy A.
