Museum Quality Whale Lance spear tip. Legally recovered in Alaska on the Seward Peninsula, and was dug from permafrost. The point itself is large and beautifully flaked from blue chert. The shaft is made from a notty piece of spruce with a unique triangular cross section, and finely braided sinew. A place for the wrapping was carefully carved out, and the point is fit so unbelievably perfect to the wood, it's remarkable. The spear was made by a culture known as Norton and these date to up to 3,000 bp. They were used primarily on bowhead whales, after they were harpooned they finished them off with these. Measures 17 inches long, and the point is around 3 1/2 inches long. Shipping is on me and I will also throw in a bonus piece for purchaser. Thanks a lot for looking!
